A Wisconsin teen argued with a classmate on the bus. Prosecutors say 6 seconds after they stepped off, he opened fire

A warrant is currently out for the arrest of 15-year-old Robbiel Stokes following the fatal shooting of 16-year-old Camron Bowen in Milwaukee. Prosecutors have charged Stokes with first-degree intentional homicide in connection with the incident. Authorities were called to the scene, where they discovered Bowen in the street suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He died from his injuries at the location.

As reported by Law & Crime, the events leading up to the shooting were captured on surveillance video from a county bus. According to the criminal complaint, the two teenagers were seen having a “heated” conversation while riding in the back of the vehicle. The bus driver claimed that both teens appeared to board at the same stop and sat near each other. When the driver pulled over to let passengers off, both boys exited the bus at the same time.

Police investigators noted that only “6 seconds” passed after the pair stepped off the bus before the violence unfolded. Surveillance footage shows Stokes pulling a handgun from his hoodie while Bowen had his back turned. Stokes then “immediately started to fire the handgun” at Bowen, who attempted to run in front of the bus to escape the gunfire. 

The police have yet to catch the suspect

The driver witnessed the encounter, telling police he reportedly saw Stokes catch up to Bowen and fire several shots before pausing to look at the victim and fleeing the scene. The driver radioed dispatchers immediately to report the situation as Bowen collapsed in the road.

The relationship between the two teens was already reportedly strained, as the principal of the school they both attended confirmed they had been involved in a fight just three days prior to the shooting. The investigation into Stokes moved quickly after police spoke with his mother. 

She told authorities that her son called her to pick him up. Later, she found him in the street, noting that he was soaking wet from the rain, and drove him to his grandmother’s house. When investigators presented her with images from the shooting, she identified her son as the suspect.

She consented to a search of her vehicle, where police reportedly discovered a Federal .40-caliber Smith & Wesson cartridge on the floor of the back seat. Law enforcement officials confirmed that this matched the brand and caliber of the casings recovered at the scene of the shooting.

While prosecutors issued the arrest warrant, Stokes remains at large. The mother of the victim, Jennifer Cassidy, spoke about the ongoing search during an interview with WTMJ. She stated, “I’m happy that I know who it is. I’m happy that I know it was exactly what I suspected. It is just hard because he is not caught yet. I just don’t want this happening to anybody else.”
