Malia Nummerdor, a 38-year-old resident of Port Charlotte, is currently facing a second-degree felony charge for sexual activity involving an animal. The arrest follows an investigation by the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office after graphic video evidence surfaced regarding the treatment of the family dog, named Ranger.
As reported by People, the case began when Erik Nummerdor, the estranged husband of the suspect, made public allegations on Facebook. Erik claimed he had discovered his wife engaging in sexual acts with the family dog inside their home. According to the official arrest affidavit, Erik told authorities he possessed both photographic and video evidence to support these claims.
During a follow-up interview, Erik explained to a detective how he came to possess the footage. He had reportedly installed two surveillance cameras inside the house, primarily to monitor a coin container after noticing money was missing. Erik noted that the bedroom camera was visible to household members and featured a blinking red light, recording in continuous intervals.
She reportedly failed to provide an explanation
Upon reviewing the footage, Erik reportedly discovered the video of his wife and the dog. He provided authorities with screenshots and granted investigators full access to a laptop containing the surveillance files. The detective who reviewed the images described seeing an adult female, identified as Malia, positioned with the dog in a manner consistent with sexual activity.
When investigators questioned Malia, they noted that she appeared to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Despite the visual evidence, she reportedly initially denied that any sexual conduct occurred. The affidavit states that she could not provide a consistent explanation for what was seen on the camera.
While she confirmed she was the person in the room and acknowledged that the dog belonged to her, she offered conflicting accounts regarding the nature of the footage. She also claimed that Erik had installed the cameras without her knowledge and had accessed her social media accounts to post the images. Malia further alleged that the recordings were from 2024 and that her husband had previously used the videos to threaten her.
The incident has drawn a strong reaction from local law enforcement. Sheriff Bill Prummell released a statement expressing his disbelief regarding the details of the case. He stated, “There are only a few times in my career that I have been at a loss for words. This is one of those times. I simply cannot comprehend this behavior.”
The sheriff also addressed the suspect’s demeanor during the booking process, adding, “And then to smile in the mugshot? I don’t know what there is to smile about when you’ve been arrested for something as disgusting as this.” Malia Nummerdor is currently being held at the Charlotte County Jail. Her bond has reportedly been set at $35,000.
