A Texas man was shot and killed during a Christmas party after a noise complaint escalated into a deadly confrontation. The incident occurred in the early hours at a home in San Antonio, according to local police.
Authorities said 40-year-old Paul Flores went to his neighbor’s house to complain about loud noise coming from a Christmas gathering. What began as a routine complaint quickly turned into a heated situation once Flores arrived at the home.
According to People, Flores got into an argument in the front yard with 29-year-old Edward Trejo, who was attending the party. Witnesses told investigators that the dispute intensified within moments, with tensions rapidly spiralling out of control.
The dispute over party noise turned fatal in seconds
Police allege that Flores then pulled out a gun and shot Trejo multiple times, including at least one shot to the neck. Emergency responders rushed Trejo to a nearby hospital, but doctors were unable to save him, and he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
The fatal shooting has left the community shaken, especially given that it stemmed from what initially appeared to be a minor noise complaint during a holiday celebration. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting as the case moves forward.
Flores was arrested and charged with murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, according to jail records. It is not clear if he has entered a plea or hired an attorney yet. This is not the first time Texas has seen gun violence make headlines recently.
After Trejo’s death, hundreds of family members and friends gathered to honor him at a balloon release. “He had a big heart, you know,” his friend Vanessa Fernandez told the media. “He loved everybody.”
Trejo’s twin brother, Christian Trejo, also spoke publicly about the devastating loss. He described Edward as a devoted family member who always put others before himself and was constantly there for the people he loved.
Christian said his brother did so much for their family, often stepping in to help whenever someone was in need. He added that Edward was the kind of person who always had everyone’s back, making his sudden and violent death even harder for those closest to him to comprehend.
A GoFundMe page was set up to help Trejo’s family. So far, it has raised nearly $30,000. The organizer wrote that Edward’s laughter, kindness, and love touched everyone who knew him. Legal battles in Texas have also affected other families across the state.
The family said his absence leaves a hole in their hearts that can never be filled.
