Two Florida boys will be tried as adults for killing 14-year-old Danika Troy. The boys, 16-year-old Gabriel Williams and 14-year-old Kimahri Blevins, are accused of shooting her multiple times and setting her body on fire. The murder happened near Pensacola in Pace, Florida, on November 30.
According to the NY Post, the State Attorney’s Office announced on Friday that both teens were indicted on first-degree premeditated murder charges. Police say the boys lured Troy to a walking path where they shot her and then burned her body. Troy’s mother reported her missing the next morning, and someone found her badly burned remains on December 2 around 11:00 AM.
The victim was identified only by her shoes and electric scooter, which she had ridden to meet the boys. The Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office arrested both suspects within days. They were first held at a juvenile detention center but were moved to the Santa Rosa County Jail without bond after the indictment.
The motive behind this crime remains a complete mystery to investigators
Sheriff Bob Johnson said the evidence pointed to the boys right away, which led to their quick arrest. He expressed shock at the violence, saying it’s bad enough to kill a 14-year-old, but shooting her multiple times and then setting her on fire is even worse.
Police believe the attack was planned after the three teens had a disagreement on social media in November. Troy had allegedly called Williams worthless and a gang member. However, the sheriff said the motive they received “doesn’t fit the forensics or any facts of the case.”
This suggests there’s more to the story that hasn’t been discovered yet. Similar to another shocking case where authorities launched investigations, this tragedy has left many questions unanswered.
Danika’s mother, Ashley Troy, revealed that her daughter had been friends with the boys before the online fight. One of them allegedly pretended to have romantic feelings for Danika to trick her into meeting them. Ashley told reporters that Williams pretended to have feelings for her daughter, which is how she was lured to the walking path.
The mother said she still needs answers and is struggling to understand why this happened. “I don’t know how I’m holding up, really,” Ashley Troy said. “Every other day, every new wave of pain and denial of how this could be real; my baby, killed. It’s nothing I ever imagined. My worst nightmare.”
Like a woman who discovered painful truths in her late mother’s belongings, Ashley is left searching for closure. She has chosen not to blame the boys directly and instead blames evil influence for the killing.
The boys allegedly used a gun stolen from Williams’ mother. However, the parents of the suspects are not currently facing any charges. This case shows how online arguments can quickly turn into real-world tragedies.
