Civilization Online looks to be the next step in the Civilization franchise that built itself as a single-player experience and slowly grew over time. This new one looks to be a full fledged MMO.

The game will put players in the role of a citizen in a civilization of their choosing and they will choose how they want to contribute to the growth of their civilization, be it worker, farmer, or many other jobs, at least that’s the way the description makes it feel. It does sound pretty neat.

“Civilization Online is a unique new MMO in which players work together to build a civilization from the stone age to the space age. Create your custom avatar and then choose which role you will play in the expansion of your empire. Research and develop new technologies, construct buildings and great wonders, wage war, or conduct espionage to achieve victory over other players and civilizations in a dynamically changing world.”

Civilization Online is currently in closed beta in Korea but you can join the Facebook page and take a look at the official website. Check out a video from early in development below.

Civilization Online is currently being made by XL Games and has no release date for the west. Hopefully it will as it looks pretty cool and the art style is in the same vein as Civilization Revolution. What do you think? Would you buy it?
