As far as Internet wide Aril Fools’ Day pranks go, this one is pretty damn elaborate. This is some next level chicanery right here. The team over at Eidos Montreal has revealed Deus Ex: Human Defiance. An 8-bit foray into the action title’s imagined past.

The fake game has all of the hallmarks of a classic Deus Ex title; cybernetic enhancements, deep moral conflicts, and massive government conspiracies. Also, pixels. Lots and lots of pixels. The executive director Jean-Francois Dugas and production designer Jonathan Jacques-Belletete, can’t figure out why the title wasn’t getting the proper support from their supervisors. We’d play the hell out of this game, and it’s a massive bummer that this is a prank and not something we can actually play. Watch the trailer below and let us know what you think.
