She thought his first meal was ‘so good.’ The internet saw what he served her and decided the relationship was already over

At least he tried.

Sophie Minchilli from Italy thought she was sharing a cute moment on TikTok. Her boyfriend cooked dinner for her for the first time, and she wanted to show how sweet it was. But the internet had other plans. The 12-second video showed him making tomato sauce over rice, and thousands of people had strong opinions about it.

In the clip, her boyfriend puts rice in two bowls and pours hot tomato sauce on top. He mixes everything together and adds some olive oil before Minchilli takes a bite. She wrote on the TikTok video, “My boyfriend said ‘I’ll cook for you’ for the first time and he’s so cute he did his best.”

According to Bro Bible, viewers did not see it the same way. One person asked, “Praising a grown man for cooking nonse nse??” Another said, “I love sebbi but beat my man if he cooked mf rice and tomato sauce.” Someone else told her, “Beat him wtf.”

Is rice with tomato sauce really that bad?

Here’s the thing though. This simple meal actually comes from Italy. A cooking website called Cooking With Nonna says rice with tomato sauce is called Riso al Pomodoro. It’s a comfort food that Italian families have been eating for years.

The trick is using good ingredients to make it taste right. So while everyone was making fun of the boyfriend, he might have been cooking real Italian food. This isn’t the first time people have gotten harsh criticism about food choices on social media either.

The video got 2.2 million views, and Minchilli posted two more videos after that. In one of them, she joked that everyone convinced her to break up with her boyfriend. She even asked people for dating tips. She was probably just messing with all the people who left mean comments.

In her other video, she talked about how upset she was with how people acted. She said, “And this is why I will never be posting about my friends, family or partner ever again on this app.” All the negative comments made her think twice about sharing personal stuff online. What happened to her is similar to other viral stories where simple moments turned into huge deals on TikTok.

This whole thing shows how fast people will judge a relationship from a short video. A boyfriend trying to do something nice turned into a big argument about what people should expect from their partners. Whether Minchilli really loved the food or was just making content, one thing is clear. People on social media love telling others what to do with their lives.
