A family in Louisiana is going through a terrible tragedy after losing their 5-year-old boy. Carson Lawson was killed while he stood outside waiting for his school bus. He was in his driveway in Slidell when the accident happened around 7 a.m.
According to the New York Post, his grandmother, 55-year-old Kristen Anders, was the one driving the vehicle that hit him. She was backing out of the driveway when she ran over Carson. Police came to the scene and arrested her right away. She has been charged with vehicular homicide. Officers said she had alcohol and sedatives in her system when it happened.
The boy’s mother, Abi Combs, posted on Facebook about losing her son. She shared pictures of Carson and wrote: “There is absolutely nothing in this world that I could say to truly express the sorrow I will now and forever have in my heart.”
This whole situation is just heartbreaking
The police chief in Slidell, Daniel Seuzeneau, talked about how awful this is for everyone. He said it’s every parent’s worst nightmare. The chief explained that they don’t think Anders realized Carson was standing in front of her car. He pointed out that this family is going through something really hard because they lost a little boy and now have to deal with the grandmother being arrested too.
Combs wrote that nothing she could say would really show how sad she feels about losing her son. She said Carson knew his family loved him very much. She asked people to give her privacy so she can grieve and said she will never be the same person again. Families dealing with unexpected losses of loved ones often have a hard time making sense of what happened.
In her Facebook post, Combs thanked everyone who reached out to her. But she admitted she doesn’t really know what she needs right now. She said she has no idea what to do next or how to move forward. She didn’t talk about her mother’s arrest or exactly what happened in her public message.
The police are still looking into everything that happened that morning. Anders is facing a vehicular homicide charge for her grandson’s death. This case shows how dangerous it is to drive when you’ve been drinking or taking certain medications.
People in Slidell are shocked by what happened. A little boy lost his life doing something he did every school day. Carson was just standing there waiting to get on the bus when he was killed. Now his family has to figure out how to deal with their grief while the legal case against Anders moves forward. Similar family tragedies that occur without warning leave everyone looking for ways to help and make sense of the loss.
