This Londoner flew to a different continent for a cheaper haircut, and the math actually works

When international travel is the budget option.

Life in Britain keeps getting more expensive, and people are feeling the pinch everywhere they turn. Whether it’s buying food at the supermarket or paying for everyday services, costs have gone up so much that many are struggling to keep up. Most of us just accept these higher prices as part of life now, but some people have come up with pretty wild ways to save a bit of cash.

A story that’s been making the rounds on social media recently shows just how crazy things have gotten with prices in the UK. Someone from London decided to hop on a plane to another continent just to get their hair cut, and believe it or not, the whole trip including the flight still cost less than what they would have paid at a salon in London. When you add up the plane ticket and the haircut together, it was still cheaper than getting it done at home.

People online have been talking about it non stop because it really shows how out of control prices have become in big UK cities like London, as per Ladbible. Nobody knows exactly which continent the person flew to, but the fact that flying halfway across the world could save you money on something as basic as a haircut says a lot about what’s happening with costs right now.

Honestly, it makes you think about where we went wrong

This whole situation fits into a bigger picture of how everything in the UK has gotten way too pricey. Not long ago, an old Morrisons receipt from 2001 went viral because it showed how much cheaper things used to be.

That receipt showed someone spending about 34 pounds on groceries, but if you tried to buy those same items today, you’d be looking at over 67 pounds. And here’s the kicker, many of those products are actually smaller now than they were back then.

Haircuts are just one example of how the cost of services has shot up over the years. Things like rent, energy bills, and food have all gotten more expensive, but most people’s pay hasn’t gone up enough to match. This means people have to make tough choices about what they can afford and what they need to skip. For some folks, that apparently now includes thinking about catching a flight to get basic services done instead of paying local prices.

People on social media have been sharing their own stories about dealing with crazy high prices. The haircut story has got people talking about everything from salon costs to grocery shopping, with loads of comments from folks who can’t believe how much things cost now compared to before. Someone looking at that 2001 receipt pointed out that while some things haven’t changed that much in price, others have absolutely skyrocketed.

Younger people especially seem to connect with this story because they’re living in a completely different financial world than their parents did. Older folks sometimes say young people have it easy these days, but stuff like the Morrisons receipt and this haircut story prove that’s just not true. The problems people face with money in 2025 are serious and real, pushing them to come up with creative solutions just to afford normal things.
