Motorola just dropped a foldable phone that does something Samsung refused to do with its latest flagship

Motorola is bringing their fold phone game back.

Motorola has officially entered the foldable phone market with its first side-foldable device, the Razr Fold, joining the ranks of devices like the Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold and Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7. The new smartphone features a 6.6-inch exterior display for quick access and notifications, along with an expansive 8.1-inch bendable main screen that transforms the device into a tablet-like experience. Motorola has yet to reveal the exact thickness of the phone when folded.

According to Engadget, one standout feature of the Razr Fold is its compatibility with the Moto Pen Ultra stylus. This is a notable advantage, especially since Samsung removed stylus support from the Galaxy Z Fold 7. Stylus functionality is particularly valuable for foldable devices, as their larger, tablet-sized screens are ideal for drawing, note-taking, and precise navigation.

Motorola has also equipped the Razr Fold with an impressive camera setup. The device boasts a 50MP Sony main sensor, a 50MP ultra-wide/macro lens, and a 50MP telephoto camera. For selfies and video calls, there’s a 32MP camera on the outside and a 20MP camera on the inner screen. Additionally, the phone supports Dolby Vision video recording, promising higher-quality footage with enhanced dynamic range and color.

Samsung’s loss could be Motorola’s gain in the foldable market

The Razr Fold will come in blue and white colors. Motorola has not revealed details about the processor, RAM, storage, price, or release date. The company said it will share more information in the coming months.

This marks Motorola’s first foray into side-folding smartphones. The company, however, has a long history with top-folding devices, the classic flip-phone design folding from top to bottom, which Motorola originally pioneered. The standard Razr line continues to offer midrange top-folding smartphones today, making the Razr Fold a notable expansion into a different style of foldable device.

One of the Razr Fold’s standout features is stylus support via the Moto Pen Ultra. The stylus support could attract people who want a foldable phone with pen features. Samsung used to offer this with older models but removed it from the Z Fold 7. The Korean tech giant recently made a surprising pricing choice for Galaxy phones.

Meanwhile, Samsung has been making waves in other areas, such as adding health-detection features to its wearables and making unexpected pricing moves for its Galaxy smartphones. Motorola has not said when the Razr Fold will be available for purchase. More details about specs and pricing will come later this year.
