Renter says she came home to find her fridge tampered with. Then she says it kept getting worse from there: ‘I advise you to leave’

A TikTok user who posts as @art.jawn shared a video recounting a series of conflicts at a shared house in Atlanta. The TikTok video has drawn 317,500 views and 16,900 likes. In it, she said she moved into the house in October of last year with her baby after leaving a difficult living.

She stated that the landlord was supposed to run background checks on tenants, but later claimed this did not happen. The woman said she initially shared the house with one other person she described as chill. About a week later, a roommate named Janae moved in. She said she at first found Janae loud, but the two stayed cordial after Janae started conversations.

The TikTok user explained that Janae was assigned as house manager by the landlord and often cleaned. She said she did not mind the cleaning until one night when Janae used a large amount of Pine-Sol. She claimed the strong smell forced her to open windows because of her baby. She said another tenant, an older man named Tony, also told Janae the cleaner was too strong. According to the woman, they asked Janae to be more mindful, and Janae replied that she would stay in her own zone.

A couple of weeks later, she said she returned home with her boyfriend and again smelled Pine-Sol. She stated she confronted Janae and told her they had already asked her to use less of the strong cleaner. She claimed Janae became defensive, and an argument followed. She said she then kept her distance.

The woman explained that a few days later, she heard Janae talking loudly on the phone outside her window around 9 a.m. while her baby slept. She said she asked Janae to lower her voice. According to her, Janae replied by telling her to close her window or get her own apartment. She said another argument broke out, and she texted the landlord about the noise.

She stated that Janae later left for a couple of weeks to visit her child in Washington, D.C. During that time, the house was quiet. When Janae returned, the TikTok user said she heard her claim the house smelled like HIV. She stated she went downstairs and Janae told her nobody wanted her there and that she would leave. The woman said she replied that Janae would not make her go anywhere.

She claimed Janae then tried to pour bleach on her. She said her boyfriend pulled her into a bathroom to separate them, but Janae followed and tried to stab her with a knife. The TikTok user stated they called the police, yet could not leave because Janae had taken her car keys. 

According to her, police arrived and did not arrest Janae after Tony said she did not have a knife. She said officers advised her to file a temporary protection order, which she did. The incident highlights the complex situations police sometimes encounter, such as when a woman called police after drunk strangers tried breaking into the home she was babysitting in. 

She explained that days later, she returned and took a drink of orange juice from her fridge. She said it smelled like a pool. Her boyfriend later confirmed it contained bleach, she claimed. She stated she called the police again, but the officer only filed a report and did not examine the juice. She said she had been texting the landlord about the problems, yet the landlord would not get involved and kept saying the issues were between the tenants.

The woman claimed the landlord’s repeated response was “I advise you to leave.” She said she later found her baby’s high chair and shoes soaked in what smelled like urine, along with cut-up bottles and a boiled egg placed in a shoe. She stated she filed another police report, but officers again called the matter civil. She also said she discovered online that another roommate had filed a temporary protection order against her and believed the landlord had given out her real name.

She explained that she began staying mostly at her boyfriend’s place and set up a camera outside her window. She said Tony repeatedly blocked the camera. On one morning, she arrived with the police and found the older roommate accusing her of spraying urine throughout the house the night before, even though she said she had not been there.

The TikTok user claimed the landlord’s father later pushed her out of the house after she tried to speak with him about cameras. She stated that police again treated the incident as civil. The woman’s troubles go beyond property tampering, as a Florida woman once returned home to find her driveway replaced with a mountain of dirt. 

Viewers left comments under the video. One commenter advised her to leave the house, writing, “Girl get out of that place. For your peace and sanity.” Another described the events as harassment and added, “This is harassment I hope you find peace love.” 

A third pointed to possible favoritism, stating, “Favoritism was what happened I’m sure the landlady knew her personally.” One more recommended additional steps, writing, “You need to contact the police commissioner and report the police officers for not doing their job. Also look up the laws in your state to back the report.”
