Tennessee woman says a man followed her into her hotel and waited outside her room for hours: ‘Don’t ever be alone in an elevator’

A work trip to Tennessee became uncomfortable for one hotel guest after she says she started noticing the same people around the property. The situation began with an elevator encounter and later involved repeated knocking at her hotel room, according to her account.

According to TikTok creator Gracie Johnsn (@graciejohnsn), she was staying at a hotel in Lawrenceburg when she noticed a large group of construction workers there. She says several men entered the elevator behind her after she returned from getting food, with two of them getting off on her floor — similar to another recent hotel-safety story involving a man in an elevator who hadn’t pressed a floor button at all.

Johnsn claims those two men were staying in the room next to hers. She says they knocked on her door about 10 minutes after she went inside, and although she did not answer, they allegedly returned later, with one of the men telling her they knew she was inside.

She says hotel staff checked the footage

After the knocking, Johnsn says she contacted the front desk and was moved to another floor. It’s the same basic move a retired FBI agent pointed to as one of the simplest things travelers can ask for when something at a hotel doesn’t feel right. She says an employee later told her that hotel staff had reviewed security footage from the property.

According to Johnsn, a different man later went to her original room and remained outside for nearly three hours. She claims he paced around, looked through the peephole and continued knocking, while appearing to have a large object in his pocket.

Johnsn also says the man had allegedly seen her arrive at the hotel, watched her leave to get food and followed her back inside. She claims hotel staff showed her a photo of the man after reviewing the footage, although there is no independent confirmation of what he intended to do.

Johnsn says the front desk told her the men were linemen working in the area and that the hotel had contacted their employer. She also claims she was told the man who had been outside her room was later terminated, but there is no independent statement from the employer confirming that detail.

The story also drew comments from people discussing their own concerns about staying in hotels alone. One commenter wrote, “Ladies, don’t EVER be alone in an elevator with a man or multiple men. If that happens, walk out of the elevator and let the men go on the elevator alone.”

Johnsn eventually checked out of the hotel and headed back to Nashville. What the men intended remains unclear from her account, but she says the string of encounters was enough to make up her mind about staying there any longer.
