Rumors recently popped up that suggested Sony may have trouble hitting the Holiday 2013 release window for the PS4.  Edge Magazine said that the company would instead be targeting an early 2014 release.  Today however, sources at computer and video games say that this is unlikely.

Microsoft will not be getting a first mover advantage in Europe

An insider involved with “PlayStation’s business strategy” told the website that Sony is expecting Microsoft to focus more on Europe in the next generation, and that Microsoft will not be getting a first mover advantage again.  Itt looks like Sony has definitely learned the importance of launching first.

Sony was playing catch up for the better part of the current generation, and lost a significant chunk of their North American market share as a result.  A delay of the PS4 in Europe could see similar results if Sony was to miss the date, so it makes sense that the company is doing everything in its power to hit that date.

CVG also suggests that if previous rumors about a possible PS4 supply shortage turn out to be true, the United States and European markets will be the first priority over Japan.
