The exodus from the Gears of War franchise continues, as Chris Wynn departs Epic for Bioware. Wynn will be working on the next Mass Effect game at the EA studio, where he’ll be the senior development director of the franchise. The developer posted the news via Twitter, and explained his excitement for the transition into leadership for one of gaming’s biggest third party franchises.

Wynn was in lead roles at Epic Games for Gears of War 3 and Gears of War: Judgment. His departure from Epic comes in the wake of other key developers leaving the company. Rod Fergusson, Cliff Bleszinski, and Mike Capps all left Epic in about the span of a year.

While there’s still no telling what the future holds for Gears of War fans, if another game does arrive on the Xbox One, it most certainly will not have its creators at the helm. The last game in the franchise, Gears of War: Judgment was developed by People Can Fly, the development studio responsible for Bulletstorm.

As for Wynn’s new venture, a new chapter in the Mass Effect story is set to begin. While Bioware has blatantly explained to fans that the storyline of Commander Shepard is over, they’re confident that there is plenty of story to tell in the robust Mass Effect universe. Just don’t call it Mass Effect 4.
