Things have started to look a little rosier as of later for the indie development scene on the Xbox One. The recently announced Xbox ID program is going to allow developers to get their games on the Xbox One in a cost efficient manner. And according to new details out of PAX Prime, these developers won’t be limited to using any one business model.
Speaking with Joystiq at the convention, Microsoft’s Chris Charla explained that developers in the program will be free to explore all business models available on the Xbox One. Self-published games on the Xbox One will be free to use premium pricing, micro-transactions, or free-to-play models on the console.
Basically, for developers in the ID@Xbox program, they can take advantage of all the same features as any other game. “They have full Gamerscore, full Achievements, can take advantage of SmartGlass, Kinect- if you can do it with an Xbox One game, you can do it with anything that comes through the ID@Xbox program.”
We’ve yet to hear any real blockbuster announcements about indie titles coming to the Xbox One as of yet.
