Activision Blizzard, the game company most notable for making Call of Duty and World of Warcraft, has hired a prominent lobbying firm in order to influence an upcoming US Senate Bill.
The lobbying firm, Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld, is expected to influence the Senate’s position on an upcoming violent video games bill, but their position on the matter is currently unknown. Looking at the situation from Activision’s point of view though, it would appear likely that the firm would lobby against any position linking violent video games and abnormal behaviour in children.
The Senate Bill in question, proposes a study of violent video games and their impact on the behaviour of children, while also calling for the the National Academy of Sciences to review the evidence behind games and their unique impact on children with differing problems (such as already prominent aggressive behaviour).
This information comes just after an Australian study found that video games provide positive benefits to children, provided they are played in moderation.
