Part of Infinity Ward’s plan to improve online connectivity with Call of Duty: Ghosts is to include dedicated servers. Today, Infinity Ward’s Mark Rubin relayed some of the team’s most recent work on this front.

Ghosts will use a hybrid system of dedicated and listen servers

“Dedicated servers will be used on current gen, next gen and PC with Ghosts,” said Rubin. “In order to make sure that people have the best possible experience regardless of platform, location or connection, Ghosts will be using a hybrid system of dedicated servers and listen servers. So no matter where you are the game will always be trying to give you the best online performance possible.”

This is good news for those that have had connectivity issues with Call of Duty games in the past. According to Rubin, there will also be some “great new tech” in the matchmaking system.

“There is also some great new tech in the matchmaking system that will place players in matches that have the best combined overall connectivity performance.”

Rubin also said that they have plans for server browsers. rentable servers, and that the team has been working on PC mod tools. Once the game has been shipped and is out the door, we’ll likely hear more about these features. While Rubin couldn’t officially confirm, he said that Infinity Ward hopes to incorporate them, but nothing is for certain.
