The Xbox One and PlayStation 4 are now available to many consumers worldwide.  Both Microsoft and Sony have had successful launches for their respected consoles, selling out quickly to early adopters and holiday shoppers.  While both seem to be doing well, one analyst believes that Sony’s PS4 will lead until Microsoft cuts the price on the Xbox One.

If either gathers dust it will be the Xbox One

In a recent episode of The Bonus Round on Game Trailers, Pachter discussed the potential for a price cut on the Xbox One.

Pachter explained, “I think they both sell out. If either of them gathers dust on the shelf it’ll be the Xbox One because of the price-point. Next year I’d say Sony out-sells Microsoft by 25%, so probably 12 million to 9 million or something. Something like that. And I think Sony keeps the lead until Microsoft cuts the price or explains to us why that Kinect is actually worth an extra hundred bucks.”

Though Pachter is bullish on both consoles.  His sentiments indicate that he thinks it will be a tight race between the two consoles. The analyst believes that Nintendo’s shrinking market share with the Wii U will be gathered by Microsoft and Sony.
