In January Microsoft will be offering Sleeping Dogs and Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light, free to Xbox Live Gold members. Starting on January 1st, United Front’s 2012 release, Sleeping Dogs, will be free for all until the 15th. From the 16th to the 31st, Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light to download through the program.

January will mark the inclusion of the newest games Microsoft has yet to offer through the free program. Games with Gold is an initiative that Microsoft announced back at E3 2013, which essentially gives Xbox Live Gold subscribers more bang for their buck with the inclusion of a couple free games each month.

While it’s hard to complain about free games, Microsoft has been getting beat by Sony’s similar PlayStation Plus program, which offers a similar feature. Microsoft has been offering many games that are five or six years old at this point. This month things get markedly better, and hopefully it’s a sign of things to come.
