Games on the Xbox One have missed the mark when it comes to the illusive 1080p resolution, but fans of the console should expect “fairly large improvements” in the years ahead. Boyd Multerer tells OXM that it’s simply a matter of developers wrapping their heads around the system architecture to allow for better graphics and higher resolution.

“The hardware is basically baked, and what comes next is people discovering better software techniques to take advantage of it, especially in the ordering of the data so it flows through all the caches correctly, and I think there’s a lot of opportunity there,” explained the Xbox Hardware Executive.

According to Multerer, the Xbox One is more than capable of ‘fairly large improvements as people tune the development process to get maximum use out of the GPU’.

The Xbox One launch has seen numerous games release at sub-1080p native resolution on the console, while launching on the PlayStation 4 at higher counts.
