The PlayStation 4 is at the top of the hardware charts in North America yet again. For the fifth straight month, the PlayStation 4 beats Xbox One and Wii U in sales.
Nintendo’s 3DS Handheld also managed to outsell the Xbox One and Wii U, but it’s unclear If Mario Kart 8 propelled the Wii U far enough to surpass the Xbox One last month.
June may be a different story for Microsoft. The company recently effectively slashed the price of the console by unbundling the Kinect Sensor in a $399 SKU. A move likely spurred on by Sony’s continued success with the PS4 since it launched last November.
The NPD data shows year over year growth in the hardware sector of the games industry. The PS4, Xbox One, Wii U and PS Vita all saw year-over-year growth.
On the software side, Ubisoft’s Watch Dogs was the top selling game, holding off Nintendo’s Mario Kart 8. Sony’s MLB 14: The Show cracked the top three. While Wolfenstein: The New Order and Minecraft Xbox/PS3 Edition rounded out the top 5.
