One series that I still hold near and dear to my heart is Digimon. Growing up I loved this show and after rewatching it recently, it still holds up very well. Sadly, seen by many as just a Pokemon ripoff, though it actually came first, Digimon has had a number of video games of their own to accompany the anime, but sadly the US has mostly gotten the shaft in recent years. Though there have been fantastic games released in Japan, such as Digimon Adventure and Digimon World Re:Digitize Decode in recent years, none have come to the US since Digimon World Championship in 2008. Luckily, that drought is ending with the announcement of Digimon All-Star Rumble for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
Interestingly enough, this game was not known at all prior to this announcement and almost seems like a western exclusive based on the release date reveal. Set to launch on November 11 in the US and Europe, Digimon All-Star Rumble is a new fighting game that lets you use one of twelve of the most popular Digimon from the anime in battle against one another in a 3D arena. The confirmed fighters so far are Agumon, Biyomon, Dorulumon, Gabumon, Gatomon, Shoutmon, Tentomon, and Veemon. I’m just hoping my personal favorite Guilmon makes it in. With the digivolutions, there will be 32 total forms.
The good news is that Prope, the developer being Digimon Adventure, worked on this game, so a quality development is at the helm along with Bandai Namco publishing. Also, hopefully this game coming to the US will lead to others like the aforementioned current Japanese exclusives, as well as the upcoming Digimon Cyber Sleuth.
