After releasing for the original PlayStation Portable years ago in Japan, Final Fantasy Type-0 is finally making its way to the west in the form of Final Fantasy Type-0 HD for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The game is nearing completion, with a release date set for next March, but the game’s director is already looking forward to a possible sequel.
In an interview with Kotaku, the new director for Final Fantasy XV, who was at the helm for Final Fantasy Type-0 as well, discussed how far Final Fantasy XV has come in the last couple years. At that time, the interviewer joked that he should make Final Fantasy XVI, in which he responded by saying:
“If I could do anything I’d like. I’d want to make Final Fantasy Type-1 first.”
With the praise given to Final Fantasy Type-0 and the game now getting an HD remake, it does seem logical for there to be another game in this spinoff series, especially with Square Enix’s penchant for making sequels these days. However, if Final Fantasy XV is very well received, one would think that Square Enix would get him right on the next numbered sequel, with the development cycle being quite long on the main numbered titles in the series, and let someone else take charge with a sequel to the spinoff.
Look for Final Fantasy Type-0 HD to hit PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on March 17, 2015, along with a demo for Final Fantasy XV.
