Judging by the review scores, Homefront is one of those games that you either love, or find completely mediocre. Reviewers that comprise the Metacritic scoring system have rated the game a 71 in aggregate thus far. It looks like that score is going to be the one that Homefront lives with, as it hasn’t moved in days, and over 50 critics from across the world have weighed in on the shooter.
Here are some of the highlights, and lowlights of the reviews for Homefront.
Xbox Addict gave Homefront its highest score at a 93. You can read the whole review here, but they issued this summary of the game:
Combining so many elements into such a cohesive story, THQ has reminded me why I love gaming. The only fault I could find other than the character models was the relatively short single player campaign; on the hard level I finished the game in less than 7 hours.
CVG (computerandvideogames) awarded Homefront an 86 as the best FPS shooter they have played this year, trumping even Killzone 3 as far as score goes.
At times, too creatively conservative – but an engrossing, cleverly realised shooter with CoD-beating multiplayer.
Game Informer gave the game a 70
With its interesting premise, evocative opening sequence, and clever variation on multiplayer, Homefront has a strong foundation. It’s a shame that technical limitations and a derivative single-player campaign keep the game from realizing its potential.
And nearly bringing in the rear, Destructoid gave Homefront a 50, and it wasn’t even Jim Sterling.
If you’re looking for the total package, Homefront doesn’t even come close. Gamers wanting a fulfilling story-driven single-player campaign should take the next bus to Playing Half-Life 2 Again Town. But fans of competitive multiplayer should at least give Kaos’ latest a look, even if it’s unlikely to replace their shooter of choice.
