Star Wars Battlefront has been a heavily debated game ever since it was announced. Fans have been waiting for a new entry in the series for some time, but EA and DICE’s latest has a few missing items that fans were not quite happy to see go.
With the launch of the Star Wars Battlefront Beta on PS4 and PC, fans are about to get their first taste of the game, allowing them to judge for themselves whether this is the ultimate fan dream, or a massive disappointment. We got some early access with the game, and have come away very convinced that it is the former. Check out our impressions video below, where Will and I discuss our thoughts, and debate a bit about whether Star Wars battlefront lives up to the hype.
Personally, I was convinced after just a short time with the game at E3. Having been a huge fan of Star Wars Battlefront 2, this game had a lot to live up to. While some of my favorite elements, such as space battles, had been removed, the amazing graphics, fantastic sound, and tight gameplay  made up for that loss in a huge way.
Will on the other hand wasn’t quite as enamored, coming away feeling like Star Wars Battlefront might just be a re-skin of the Battlefield series. While I understand the sentiment, for some reason it doesn’t feel that way to me in the game itself.
A few things help push Star Wars Battlefront away, beyond the incredibly accurate Star Wars visuals and sound. The card system, which lets you unlock and assign special abilities to keys, the third-person camera options, and the massive battles that rely on team mechanics in order for one side to succeed, all add up to a game that is wholly different in my mind.
While the Hoth battle is extremely one-sided at this time, once it is worked out, and once players can access the full suite of levels and missions, I think everyone will be very happy with the final product. Check out the video below and let us know in the comments what you think of the Star Wars Battlefront Beta.
