Modern Warfare 3 Could Break Black Ops Sales Records

Black Ops sales records that the 2010 release has set might not be unattainable for Modern Warfare 3, according to an industry analyst.  Michael Pachter of Wedbush Securities believes that Modern Warfare 3 could see sales that surpass 20 million copies sold when the game releases this fall.  Officially Call of Duty: Black Ops has sold 13.7 Million units in the U.S. and likely many more millions across the world.  The analyst believes that Black Ops has sold over 20 million copies, and back in May he had predicted that the game had crossed the 20 million copy threshold.

In the process, Black Ops set records as the most successful video game of all time, and Pachter predicts that these numbers aren’t untouchable for Modern Warfare 3.  Being that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare started the Call of Duty phenomenon back in 2007, we could see more players than ever before heading online with the popular first person shooter.

Meanwhile, Activision surely has faith in their upcoming game.  The company believes that each game is getting stronger and stronger with each release, and although Battlefield 3 could steal some marketshare from the game, in their decision to launch alongside the popular game, analysts think it’s still a strong possibility for this trend to continue.
