The Nintendo Switch has had a pretty incredible year in 2017.  The Switch recently made history as “the fast-selling home console” in U.S. History and fans have had plenty to play in terms of exclusives for some of Nintendo’s biggest franchises.

In 2018, Nintendo might not be fighting just Sony and Microsoft at retail, but fighting a war on piracy against a group that says Custom Firmware is coming this year that is “completely future proof.”

Team Xecuter, the hacking group that introduced custom firmware to the Xbox 360 and original Xbox that opened those consoles to rampant piracy of games, says that they have a solution that will work on “ANY Nintendo Switch console regardless of the currently installed firmware, and will be completely future proof.”

They claim that this solution will open Custom Firmware for the Nintendo Switch and it will be arriving in 2018.

Accompanying a video that shows a Nintendo Switch booting up with the Xecuter logo a statement was issued that says, “This solution will work on ANY Nintendo Switch console regardless of the currently installed firmware, and will be completely future proof. This is *the* solution for opening up CFW (Custom FirmWare) on the Nintendo Switch. We want to move the community forward and provide a persistent, stable and fast method of running your own code and custom firmware patches on Nintendo’s latest flagship product. And we think we’ve succeeded!”

With the Xbox 360, Microsoft lost their war against piracy on the console.  They were fighting Team Xecuter.  While this custom firmware will open the road to home-brew apps on the Nintendo Switch (if released), the unfortunate side effect will be piracy of games in all likelihood.

Team Executer says that Custom Firmware for the Switch will be available in Spring 2018.
