This year was seemingly going to be Senran Kagura’s year, with the game not only getting a remake of Senran Kagura Burst, but also a new entry in the series, Senran Kagura 7EVEN: Girls’ Happiness. Unfortunately, a statement made by producer Kenichiro Takaki in a recent interview seems to suggest otherwise and may actually point to the game seeing a bit of a delay.

The interview, published in Weekly Famitsu, was done in commemoration of Senran Kagura Burst Re:Newal and Takaki used the opportunity to share the latest info about 7EVEN and the series as a whole.

Here is what he had to say:

— There are many fans who started the series with Senran Kagura: Shinovi Versus.

— Thanks to the work being done on Re:Newal, the team realized the story was far darker than they remembered.

— Compared to Burst’s high level of difficulty, Estival Versus was too easy. Therefore, the team is looking into making the remake more challenging to reflect their original intention for the series.

Re:Newel’s Shinobi Transformation scenes have been built from the ground up.

— Voicing from the original Burst is being used for the remakeThe story has been slightly modified to make up for any inconsistencies or confusing parts in the original.

— The team is still coming up with a solid plan for Senran Kagura: 7EVEN. As such, it will likely be a little longer before the game is released.

— A remake for Senran Kagura 2: Deep Crimson is being considered, but won’t enter the realm of possibility until after development for 7EVEN is complete.

— The team has several ideas, such as spin-offs, but they’re thinking about having the main story settle down with 7EVEN. That said, they’re not trying to end the series, but would at least like to give it a smooth landing for when it happens.

— If read backwards, 2018 is 8102 (pronounced “Paiotsu” in Japanese, or “boobs”), so Takaki wants to make it a Senran Kagura year.

Though the possibility of a delay for Senran Kagura: 7EVEN is upsetting, so long as it’s good (which it more than likely will be), than the wait will be worth it. Beyond that, however, the interview has plenty of information that will be significant to fans of the series. A Deep Crimson remake is more than welcome, as is the promise of potentially more-engaging combat. In particular, it’s good to hear that the game could be seeing more spin-offs (they’re generally good, even if they’re not my cup of tea) in the future even if the main story reaches a conclusion.

Senran Kagura Burst Re:Newal is due out for the PlayStation 4 later this week in Japan; a localization has yet to be announced. Meanwhile, 7EVEN is slated for a Fall 2018 release, but given this recent interview, things may have changed.
