Terminator Genisys’ Marketing Has Been Horrible

Whoever is responsible for advertising Terminator Genisys has to be fired ASAP. The marketing for the film spoils a major twist in the movie.

The first trailer for Terminator Genisys has over 22 million views on YouTube. Although reception for the movie and trailer was mixed at the time, there was room for the marketing department to help get people more excited for the movie. However, 22 million views is a lot so it was seen by many people worldwide.

Arnold Schwarzenegger himself helped market Terminator Genisys during WrestleMania 31 weekend. He was going into the WWE Hall of Fame and his buddy Triple H had a cool Terminator themed entrance. After WrestleMania 31 however, the marketing for the movie got worse.

In April, the second trailer drops for Terminator Genisys. The problem with this trailer is that it includes a huge SPOILER. That’s right, the marketing department gave away a huge plot spoiler in the actual trailer itself. I tried to avoid watching this trailer until…

A few weeks after the trailer hits, I go and see Avengers: Age of Ulton in the cinema. At this time, I didn’t see the second trailer for Terminator Genisys yet. I tried to avoid the spoiler (my brother warned me) until I see a poster for the movie at the cinema. It was as if the marketing department knew I avoided the second trailer so they blasted a spoiler on the movie’s poster too. That same poster is also on the movie’s Wikipedia entry as well. You cannot avoid it, even if you want to.

At that time, I was very annoyed. Since I already saw the spoiler on a poster, I went back home and decided to watch the second Terminator Genisys trailer. I can see why lots of people got annoyed. They show way too much footage of the story in the second trailer. Not only that, but they also show lots of the action sequences too.

The funny thing is, the second trailer didn’t seem to increase people’s awareness of Terminator Genisys. Because of the spoiler included in the movie, the second trailer only has 8 million total views. This is far less than the 22 million views that the first trailer received.

I am not going to tell you what the spoiler is in Terminator Genisys. If you want to spoil yourself, you can just watch the second trailer or look at the movie’s latest poster.

Terminator Genisys is the latest example that movie trailers show too much footage these days. Even the trailer for Terminator Salvation back in 2009 showed a spoiler that should have been kept a secret.
