Now that a number of you have seen Star Wars 7: The Force Awakens, it’s time to talk about the screentime for the characters. If you have seen it, you’ll know that some characters were sadly not in the film for that long.

If you are the few people in the world that have not seen the movie yet, stop reading and go watch it now. Spoilers for Star Wars 7: The Force Awakens will follow. We will talk about the characters that should hopefully get more screentime in Episode 8.

Luke Skywalker: Let’s first address the elephant in the room and talk about how The Force Awakens ended. Luke Skywalker went into hiding to find the first Jedi Temple. Rey finally found him at the end of the movie and gave him his old blue lightsaber. He turned around and never said a word.

Hopefully Luke Skywalker gets a lot more screentime in Episode 8. He had no dialogue in The Force Awakens and was only in the film for 30 seconds or so. He’s likely to be ‘Yoda’ in Episode 8 training Rey how to be a good Jedi.

Captain Phasma: She was promoted to be a cool badass during all of the promotional material for Star Wars 7: The Force Awakens. However, she had as much screentime in the film as Boba Fett did during the original trilogy.

It has been confirmed that Captain Phasma will return in Episode 8. She didn’t die in the trash compactor. The next film should at least give her some action scenes. A fight scene with Finn should happen at the very least.

General Leia: Leia was another character that only had a small-ish role in Star Wars 7: The Force Awakens. She had more screentime than the two characters above, but it wasn’t enough. Episode 8 will look at how she copes with the death of Han Solo at the hands of her own son Ben Solo (Kylo Ren). It will be interesting to see if she still feels Ben can come back to the lightside, or if she wants to avenge Han’s death.

Snoke and Maz Kanata: These two characters are being set up to be the Emperor Palpatine and Yoda of the new trilogy respectively. Both characters didn’t reveal who they are yet. The next movie should give us more clues on who they are. People are already speculating that Snoke might be Darth Plagueis. As for Maz Kanata, she might tell us how she came in possession of Luke’s lightsaber and she might also tell us who’s Rey’s parents are too.

R2-D2 and C3-PO: Star Wars 7: The Force Awakens was the “BB-8” show. The original droids were shafted in favor of the new favorite character of the franchise. R2-D2 was similar to Luke Skywalker in a lot of ways. He was only operational at the end of the movie after hibernating for so many years after Luke disappeared. Episode 8 might also tell us how the heck C3-P0 got his random red arm too.
