Mortal Kombat 11

Top 5 Characters Who Should Be Mortal Kombat 11 DLC

This article is over 5 years old and may contain outdated information

Mortal Kombat 11 releases tomorrow and includes a really impressive roster of characters at the very start, but that doesn’t stop us from thinking abou the future. Beyond the base roster, we already know the first fighter that will be part of the game’s Kombat Pass with Shang Tsung, as played by Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa. There are some leaks out there that may give us details on the rest of Kombat Pass 1 and beyond, but nothing is far from confirmed at this point. For that reason, we decided to put a list together of five characters we would like to see come to Mortal Kombat 11 as DLC at some point.

Considering Netherrealm Studios has utilized guest characters in recent games, we decided to throw one of them into the mix as well along with four Mortal Kombat characters. It is possible we see more guest characters added, but we were kind of hoping to see that reduced a bit this time around.

These are five characters we would like to see added as DLC to Mortal Kombat 11 sometime in the future.

Reptile

When you think of Mortal Kombat, there are staple characters you think of like Scorpion and Sub-Zero among others. There is no question that Reptile also fits in with that bunch as well, but he did not make the cut for the base roster in Mortal Kombat 11. Since being available as a secret character in the first game, Reptile has rarely been left off the playable roster throughout the series. He has definitely changed a lot over the years, going from just a green palette swapped ninja at the start to an outright lizard and then back to more of a happy medium. Reptile has always had a unique moveset with his acid based attacks and invisibility. Having a game without Reptile just doesn’t feel right and there is no doubt people would buy the fan favorite.

Cyrax/Sektor/Smoke (Triborg)

Another group of fan favorites in the Mortal Kombat series are definitely the cyborgs, with Cyrax, Sektor, and Smoke in his cyborg form debuting in Mortal Kombat 3. We’ve seen Cyrax and Sektor show up in Mortal Kombat 11 as characters you fight against, but they are not full playable fighters in the game. That is why we’d like to see the characters return as DLC in some way, with Triborg being the best option yet again. This was the way he was introduced in Mortal Kombat X, as a combined character that you could choose which one you wanted between the three, with Cyber Sub-Zero even as a secret variation. This spot almost went to just Smoke himself or his revenant form Enenra, but you would definitely get the most bang for your buck with Triborg instead. The only downside here is that Triborg was DLC in the previous game and Ed Boon may not want to offer the same DLC character twice in a row, though I don’t think that would stop people from buying him again.

Rain

Rain initially debuted back in Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 and pretty much was known as nothing more than a joke for years, with him being just another ninja palette swap for the most part. Mortal Kombat 2011 completely changed people’s perception about him though when he was added to the game as DLC. He actually received a moveset that was a ton of fun to play as and finally managed to win people over. We thought we might see him as DLC for Mortal Kombat X considering he was someone you fought against in story mode, but that never did come to fruition. He did not play a role in the story in Mortal Kombat 11, but we’d really like to see him get another chance to shine by coming back as DLC yet again.

Mileena

Similar to Reptile, Mileena is a major fan favorite that has been in the majority of games in the series since her debut in Mortal Kombat II. The fact that she was killed during the story mode for Mortal Kombat X might seem like it would prevent her from showing up here, but time travel shenanigans make anything possible in Mortal Kombat 11. Considering we’ve gotten the return of Shao Kahn this time around, it would make sense to have his “daughter” also make a return as well. Mileena would also be yet another strong female character to be offered in a game that already has really good female representation as is and would definitely sell well without question.

The Batman Who Laughs

For our last pick, we decided to go a bit unorthodox with our guest character pick. We could have gone with someone like Pennywise or even a more well known DC character to tie into Injustice. However, our pick instead is The Batman Who Laughs, who has really burst onto the scene recently and garnered a big fan base. The Batman Who Laughs is an evil alternate universe version of Batman who has been infected by the Joker. While I can’t ever imagine DC letting the likes of someone like Batman actually be in Mortal Kombat and get ripped to pieces with Fatalities, as we already saw how they handled this in Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe, The Batman Who Laughs would fit right into this universe and likely have better chances of working out.
