As for the villains of the second season of The Flash, I would guess that we may see Gorilla Grodd return as the main villain of the season. Grodd was teased all throughout the season and he finally faced off against Flash in the episode Grodd Lives. It may be difficult to maintain Grodd all season on a budget, but the crew did a phenomenal job at making the show look as good as it does on a CW special effect budget, so I think they could continue to do Grodd justice.
Reverse Flash is bound to be back in some way, but they likely wouldn’t use him as the main villain two seasons in a row. The Rogues are going to show up sporadically and hopefully we’ll see new members like Mirror Master show up alongside the ones we’ve already seen. We know Captain Cold and Heatwave are going off to be anti-heroes on Legends of Tomorrow, but there is no doubt they’ll be around on The Flash as well.
While not exactly a villain, one of Barry’s future flashes shows him in jail with a jumpsuit on and in handcuffs. This could be a major storyline that we can look forward to in the next season, with him being out of commission and in jail for something. The comics had Barry in jail once for killing Eobard Thawne, so it’ll be interesting to see what route they go here.
The Flash without a doubt had one of the best first seasons for a comic book series ever and honestly I feel it had one of the strongest all around seasons of any show in many years. The moments between Barry and Joe, as well as Barry and his father Henry, are some of the most genuine scenes on television and truly showcase what this show is all about, heart. The Barry Allen character was once thought to be an absolute bore next to the likes of Wally West and others, but Grant Gustin has turned the character into one of the most likable on television, with a cast of actors and stories that make this show so spectacular. I personally am already missing the show and cannot wait until October when The Flash speeds back onto the TV screen.
