Will Five Nights at Freddy’s 4 Really be the Final Game in the Series?

The Five Nights at Freddy’s series is set to conclude next month with the aptly titled Five Nights at Freddy’s 4: The Final Chapter. Or is it? Speculation continues that series creator Scott Cawthon might be pulling yet another fast one on the gaming community and his fans. So will Five Nights at Freddy’s 4 really be the final chapter?

One sign that it won’t is a recent Reddit thread wherein Cawthon says he will be “working on a new game” even after FNAF4 is released. The thread was posted by user DivadMalas who emailed Cawthon about a fan-made Five Nights at Freddy’s game that he would be working on.

He wondered if Cawthon could help out with the game once FNAF4 was released. Cawthon responded “I think it’s awesome that you’re making a game. I won’t be able to help though because I’ll be working on a new game myself! Send me a link when you finish it!”

What that “new game” will be is the real question here. Could it be Five Nights at Freddy’s 5, or another game in the series, such as a spin-off? Or, could Cawthon be telling the truth about this being the final chapter, and this is a new IP entirely. Right now only Cawthon knows, unfortunately.

As far as other evidence that Five Nights at Freddy’s 4 won’t be the last game in the series, there is the name itself. As odd as this sounds, the fact that it is called “The Final Chapter” could indicate that it is, in fact, not. The reason is that another famous horror franchise did the same thing, and for the fourth entry as well.

Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter was the fourth and definitely not final film in the long-running series. After the supposed conclusion the series went on to generate another seven films before being rebooted. In fact, the next movie came out just one year later, following the expedited development track that the FNAF series is known for.

This all doesn’t add up to a definite “yes” to the question posed, but it certainly is enough reason to doubt that Five Nights at Freddy’s 4: The Final Chapter is what it claims to be.
