Spider-Man may be the most iconic of all the Marvel Comics characters, but Marvel Studios has not had access to him in the Marvel Cinematic Universe until Sony Pictures struck a deal with them last year. The MCU debut of Spider-Man is coming in next month’s Captain America: Civil War, but we now now the title of his first solo film under the Marvel Studios umbrella with Spider-Man: Homecoming.
Rumors starting circulating in the last few weeks of a number of possible titles for the film, with Spider-Man: Homecoming being the first of the rumored titles. This came about through a website registration under that name by Sony, but now it has been officially confirmed.
This news came courtesy of CinemaCon 2016 where the new Spider-Man/Peter Parker himself, Tom Holland, revealed that the movie would be about Peter “trying to find his true identity” while also figuring out “where he fits into the world.”
This vague description doesn’t tell us much, but it obviously will tie greatly into a post Captain America: Civil War world. There is already confirmation that some sort of Avengers presence will be in Spider-Man: Homecoming, so it will be in much bigger scope than any Spidey movie we’ve seen to date.
Spider-Man Homecoming will be web swinging into theaters on July 7, 2017 and will star not only Holland, but also Marisa Tomei as Aunt May and Zendaya in an unannounced role.
