A bottle of Sancerre from Terres Blanches winery appeared briefly in Taylor Swift’s Disney documentary End of an Era. The wine, which costs about $40 in the US, was shown for just a few seconds near a mixing desk in episode five. But that tiny moment was enough to create a massive impact.
According to France 24, Swift’s devoted fans, known as “Swifties,” spotted the bottle right away. They watch everything the singer does and quickly figured out which wine Taylor was drinking. The US distributor’s website sold out fast after fans identified it as “Taylor’s wine.”
This is another example of “Swiftonomics,” where the 36-year-old billionaire singer can boost or hurt brands just by being seen with their products. Laurent Saget, who runs the Terres Blanches winery, called the whole situation “pretty mad.””Even if we had wanted to place one of our bottles in such a widely watched series, we couldn’t have afforded it. It’s nice to have a spotlight land on the appellation and on our domaine,” he added.
The unexpected promotion brought attention to a small French vineyard
Saget, who is 40 years old, admitted he doesn’t know Swift’s music at all. But he said he would happily welcome the soon-to-be-married superstar to his small family winery in the village of Bue. The property makes between 80,000 and 120,000 bottles each year.
Swift has always been a wine fan. She mentions wine often in her song lyrics and social media posts. Back in 2018, TV host Ellen DeGeneres asked what she would bring to a dinner party. Swift quickly answered “white wine” and named her favorites: Sancerre, Pinot Grigio, and Sauvignon Blanc.
Documentaries about celebrities often reveal surprising details about their personal lives. Recently, a Diddy documentary producer sparked controversy by suggesting other stars could face similar scrutiny.
Sancerre is one of France’s most famous wine regions in the central Loire Valley. The white wines are made entirely from Sauvignon Blanc grapes and are known for being crisp and fresh. The region also makes red wines using Pinot Noir grapes.
The wine has built a strong following in America over the years. It’s seen as a high-quality French white wine, similar to wines from Burgundy. About two-thirds of all white Sancerre produced gets exported, and half of those bottles go to the United States.
While Swift’s documentary showed positive moments, not all celebrity documentaries have been so well-received. Chevy Chase recently addressed racism accusations that resurfaced in a new film. Saget isn’t worried about the new 15 percent tariffs on French wine imposed by President Donald Trump.
He said the tariffs haven’t had a major impact on Sancerre sales. The wine is positioned as expensive but still affordable for most buyers. Other famous Sancerre fans include basketball star LeBron James and Spanish singer Rosalia.
