Pierce Brosnan made it clear he’s completely done talking about James Bond. The actor shut down a question about whether the spy would enjoy Christmas with a strong refusal. Brosnan played 007 in four movies and was answering questions when a journalist asked if Bond would celebrate the holidays.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Brosnan quickly replied that Bond would obviously enjoy Christmas. But when the interviewer asked if Bond’s tough personality would make him skip the holidays, Brosnan stopped the conversation. He said he didn’t want to answer and wouldn’t answer the question.
He then gave a very honest response showing how tired he is of Bond topics. “I don’t really want to answer the question, and I’m not going to answer the question,” he said. “Because I couldn’t give a f—! Why would I waste my time thinking about where James Bond would be at Christmas?”He apologized to the journalist but said these questions will continue forever.
One Bond actor before him felt exactly the same way
Brosnan isn’t the only Bond actor frustrated with endless questions about the character. He mentioned that Sean Connery, who played Bond before him, felt the same way after leaving the role. Brosnan remembered Connery’s reaction was to tell people to never ask about it again. It seems this frustration comes with the job once you stop playing Bond.
Instead of discussing Bond’s plans, Brosnan talked about his own Christmas. He said he knows exactly where Pierce Brosnan will be spending the holiday – at home with his wife in their island retreat in Hawaii. That sounds much better than fighting villains in a tuxedo.
Brosnan played Bond in GoldenEye, Tomorrow Never Dies, The World Is Not Enough, and Die Another Day. Despite being famous for the role, he admitted he hasn’t watched the movies much. The 007 franchise has inspired countless stories over the years, including a bizarre theft involving a Fabergé pendant. He said he’s never even watched the Bond films with his sons and doesn’t know why.
James Bond has an incredible legacy in the history of cinema, as well. Even Tom Cruise’s Mission Impossible stunts were inspired by the franchise.
While Brosnan is tired of silly questions about Bond’s personal life, he’s still excited about the franchise’s future. He said it’s always exciting to find out who the next Bond will be. He also praised the other Bond actors, saying he loved Connery and Roger Moore, and that Daniel Craig and Tim Dalton were both amazing.
Brosnan might even return to the franchise in a different role. Last August, he said he would definitely consider an offer if director Denis Villeneuve was involved in the next film. Brosnan thought it could be fun and joked about wearing bald caps and prosthetics. For now, Brosnan is busy with other projects including Black Bag, The Unholy Trinity, Giant, and a Cliffhanger remake with Lily James.
