Modern Warfare 2 Editions Revealed: Vault Edition and Cross-Gen Bundle Contents

Recommended Videos

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 finally has a release date, and the special editions of the game have leaked ahead of time as they always do. The game will hit store shelves on October 28, and the full reveal is slated for Wednesday, June 8. However, the contents of the game’s special editions have been datamined within the files of Call of Duty: Vanguard, and fans can obtain a ton of bonus content by purchasing the more expensive versions of the game. Here’s a breakdown of all the special editions of Modern Warfare 2.

Modern Warfare 2 Editions Explained

There are three versions of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 for sale. Each of them is listed below.

  • Standard Edition
  • Cross-Gen Bundle
  • Vault Edition

The standard edition is exactly as it sounds, priced at $60 and granting you access to the base game and nothing more. The other editions, however, have their own unique set of bonuses. Keep reading on to find out what comes with the Vault Edition and Cross-Gen Bundle.

What is the Cross-Gen Bundle?

Call of Duty has featured Cross-Gen Bundles since the release of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles in late 2020. They’re more expensive than the standard edition, but they grant access to the game on both last-gen and current-gen machines.

So, if you buy the Modern Warfare 2 Cross-Gen bundle, you’ll get the game on PS4 and PS5 or on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. The Cross-Gen Bundle costs $70 (if it follows the same pattern as Black Ops Cold War and Vanguard), which is the standard price for a next-gen game at this point.

This pricing strategy is really only in place to ensure that you don’t purchase the last gen version for $60 and expect a free upgrade. It’s scummy, but it is what it is. At least you get early access to the open beta if you pre-order this version of the game.

Vault Edition Contents

The Vault Edition is the only special edition available for Modern Warfare 2. It’s priced at either $90 or $100 (if it follows a similar pattern to Black Ops Cold War and Vanguard’s Ultimate Editions). Here’s what it includes:

  • Season 1 Battle Pass + 50 Tier Skips
  • Red Team 141 Operator Pack
    • Ghost, Soap, Price, and Farah Operators
  • FJX Cinder Weapon Vault
  • 10 Hours 2XP + 2WXP
  • Ghost Legacy Pack
    • 12 Operator Skins
    • 10 Weapon Blueprints
  • Early Access to the Open Beta

Essentially, the Vault Edition of Modern Warfare 2 includes the first Battle Pass with a ton of Tier Skips and a wide array of Operator and weapons skins. It offers a large number of cosmetics, which is typical for these special editions.

The only thing that remains unclear is what the “FJX Cinder Weapon Vault” is. It’s not a weapon blueprint since those are mentioned separately, so we’ll just have to wait for more information to be revealed before figuring out what that will do in-game.

Regardless, most people will want early access to the open beta, and you can get that by pre-ordering either the Cross-Gen Bundle or the Vault Edition of Modern Warfare 2. The open beta for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will also be released first on PlayStation, continuing a trend of the series favoring Sony’s consoles.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will be released on October 28 on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
