There is a new FPS Halo title in the works at 343 Industries, according to a recent post on Halo Waypoint.  While it was assumed that 343 was quietly working on this title, it’s been confirmed that the broader team at 343 is working on the next Halo FPS title.  However, 343 is also looking to make good on promises to improve and continue to support their legacy titles.  One of such titles is Halo: The Master Chief Collection.

This is a game that should have been an incredible release for Halo fans.  Instead the game launched with a bunch of issues that impacted the online play.  Now, three years after launch 343 Industries confirms once again that they’ll be working on the game to give it critical updates, improvements, and Xbox One X Enhancements.

A post on Halo Waypoint reveals that the work is underway for improving The Master Chief Collection.  In fact, the post details that there is a “small but experienced team” at 343 Industries that is working on updating the game.  Since this development work is being done in tandem with the work being done on the next Halo game and it’s a smaller team, 343 will be leveraging the Halo community and Xbox Insiders to have a public test server as updates are being pushed to the game.

Some of the things that are being worked on for the MCC include updating matchmaking, updating game engines to work with this matchmaking system, and a “pretty significant overhaul of the underlying network code in The Master Chief Collection.”

Following some of the back-end updates the team will be pushing bug fixes and Xbox One X visual enhancements.

If you’re concerned that this work on Halo: The Master Chief Collection will take away from development of Halo 6, think again.  343 says that this work on MCC isn’t “interfering or taking away from the next big thing.  We are committing the necessary resources to do both projects right.”

Microsoft has yet to reveal any new details or publicly announce the next Halo game, but they’re certainly working on it.
