Screengrabs from @iamdoki71 on TikTok

A tennis ball hit a seagull mid-rally and dropped it on the court, then three birds from its flock turned around and landed right beside it

A TikTok account that posts as @iamdoki71 shared a short clip of a tennis rally that ended with a bird lying on the court. It has been viewed over ten million times. A follow-up from the same account shows the bird back on its feet, and that one has passed two million views.

A woman in white and a man in black are playing when he sends the ball her way. As it bounces, a group of birds flies across the court from left to right, and the ball hits one of them around the neck. The bird ends up on the court and appears to have collapsed. Two more birds then land next to it. Most commenters identified them as seagulls.

The second video is blurry and zoomed in on the same spot. Its caption reads “Update: the bird doesn’t hurt,” and the bird can be seen walking around the court with its companions. Several viewers had asked whether the first clip was AI, and under the follow-up a few wrote, “So it wasn’t Ai.” On the original, though, most comments were about the birds that came back.

Viewers react to the birds that came back

Many viewers described the flock turning around and gathering by the bird that was hit. Several called it an “immediate funeral,” while others wrote lines for the birds like “You good cuh?” Some said they laughed at the hit itself and then felt bad once the other birds showed up.

One viewer said the bird “has a solid group of friends.” Another wrote that the other seagulls “didn’t instantly start filming but checked if the other one was okay.” A third asked why the birds were “better friends than some of my actual friends.”

Viewers question the follow-up video

Plenty of commenters on the update said the bird looked like it was throwing up, and some guessed it had a concussion. Others wrote that being alive didn’t mean the bird wasn’t hurt. Another group asked why the tennis players kept going instead of checking on it, and one said the ball and shoes could still be heard in the background.

“Not hurt? Its throwing up!!” one viewer wrote. Another said the bird “has a concussion. At best.” On the players, one commenter wrote, “Continuing to play is jus evil.”

A Spanish-language commenter answered the people asking why no one went over. She wrote that wild birds shouldn’t be touched because they will peck, and that keeping a distance lets the flock leave together. Another viewer suggested the caption writer may not be a native English speaker and “probably meant the bird isn’t dead.”

A lot of viewers said they only learned the bird was alive because TikTok put the second clip in front of them, and “part 2 found me” appeared again and again in the replies. Neither video shows the bird flying, and some commenters asked for a third part that does. A Las Vegas woman’s return trip for a stray dog in Mexico also played out across several TikTok clips.
