A woman’s hotel gave her a mandatory 5 AM wake-up call, and when she opened the window she saw why

Myriam Estrella (myriamestrella8) recently surprised her followers when she shared on Instagram and TikTok that her hotel in Kenya, Giraffe Manor, had a mandatory 5:00 AM wake-up call. As the video moves from her struggling to get out of bed to the reason behind the early start, many viewers said they would happily wake themselves up. The post has drawn over ten million views.

“It’s 5:00 AM, and we just got a knock at our door to wake up. So we are waking up,” Estrella tells her viewers sleepily in the video. She struggles to find her way through the mosquito nets around the bed, noting that she is still asleep. Once she’s out and a little more alert, she says, “Something special is about to happen. We have to be on course,” before the next clip shows her standing at a window overlooking the lawn.

Estrella looks at the camera in excitement and announces, “Friend incoming. We have a friend. Puppy on its way.” A giraffe then walks into frame and comes right up to her window, and she sings out a “Good morning” as she opens it and feeds the giraffe from a bucket. As the animal stands there waiting for more, she tells it, “Girl, you are taking up this drive-thru. Nobody else can come because you’re just monopolizing my McGiraffe drive-thru.”

Breakfast at Giraffe Manor has multiple attendees

The video cuts ahead to show Estrella trying to feed two giraffes. As she pulls food from the bucket, she tells the first giraffe, whom she identifies as Selma, that she’s a “mean giraffe. I’m trying to feed your sister.” Despite the scolding, Selma pushes the other giraffe away, and later in the video, Estrella coos over a baby giraffe and says, “I can’t believe we’re in Africa.”

Estrella eventually explains that the giraffe meet-and-greet is part of Giraffe Manor’s morning routine. According to its website, the hotel’s herd of endangered Nubian giraffes is allowed onto the grounds between 6:00 AM and 9:00 AM, where guests can feed the wild animals dried grass pellets. The hotel also notes that the interactions aren’t guaranteed, and Estrella added that after the window feeding, “you go downstairs and they eat breakfast with you. Best thing ever.”

Her viewers agreed, with one TikTok user commenting, “I was so annoyed for you until I saw the giraffes.” Many said they would wake up even earlier to feed the giraffes, while others joked about the hotel’s business model, with one Instagram user writing, “Not the hotel tricking yall into feeding the giraffes. free labor at the crack of dawn is crazy.”

Attack of the Fanboy was unable to independently verify whether Giraffe Manor requires a 5:00 AM wake-up call, as the hotel’s website does not mention one and the account originates solely from Estrella’s posts.
