Electronic Arts has announced that they are laying off a ‘small number’ of staff at their Visceral Games studio, one that is responsible for the Dead Space franchise and the recently released Battlefield: Hardline. They are also currently developing an unannounced upcoming Star Wars title.
The news comes via a report from GameInformer that broke the news. The news comes about a month after Visceral Games former Vice President, Steve Papoutsis left the studio. In a statement made to GameInformer, EA mentioned that the Visceral Games staffing change was to proritize content such as Battlefield Hardline Premium and the unannounced Star Wars project. They also followed up with the fact they are working together with the impacted employees to help them transition as smoothly as possible.
“We made a small staffing change in our Visceral studio today to support the needs of the studio’s two current development priorities: content for Battlefield Hardline Premium and an unannounced Star Wars project. We are working to ensure the smoothest transition possible for the impacted employees.”
It is a bit disappointing anytime that lay offs happen, but thankfully it doesn’t affect the entire studio. At least this means they are still dedicated to the Battlefield Hardline community and the unannounced Star Wars title that we hope to hear more about soon from Visceral Games.
