EA Sports has been tweeting for the past three days, encouraging Twitter followers to guess who will be on the front cover of FIFA 14, for the chance to win 5 free Ultimate Team packs on FIFA 13. Lionel Messi was revealed as the global cover star at the end of June via the EA SPORTS FIFA Twitter account. The next day, Manchester United and Mexico striker Javier “Chicharito” Hernández was confirmed as the accompanying footballer for the North American version of the popular sports game.
Gareth Bale, the Welsh international who plays for Tottenham Hotspur will join the Argentinian on FIFA 14’s front cover in the UK it was announced today. Bale won both the PFA Player of the Year and Young Player of the Year Awards for the 2012/13 season, and was the third highest goalscorer in the Barclay’s Premier League for the same season. He tweeted out his own delight when the news broke.
A YouTube video was uploaded to EA SPORTS FIFA’s account minutes after the announcement, which can be seen below. Gareth Bale is featured doing motion capture of his running, dribbling and kicking styles and talks about how proud he is. “To be on the front cover of the game is obviously a massive honour I think”, says Bale.
FIFA 14 will be released for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC on September 24th in North America first, and on September 27th in European markets. The next generation version of FIFA 14, built using the new Ignite engine, has been confirmed as a release day title for both the Xbox One and PS4.
