Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia will be getting a massive limited edition release according to Nintendo. Featuring the game itself along with “a hardcover Valentia Artbook; a Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia Sound Selection CD; a Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia Pin Set depicting characters Alm, Celica and Marth; and a reversible cover sheet that looks like the packaging for the original Famicom game this new one is based on” fans will definitely want to snag this before it sells out.
UPDATE: Pre-orders are up at Gamestop.
Which it will, if the limited edition of Fire Emblem Fates is anything to go by. Nintendo loves to put together nice packages for their game releases and then truly stick to the “limited” part of “limited edition.” Fire Emblem Fates saw its special edition release sell out extremely fast and then remain a highly sought item for years. It still sells for well over retail value, so I’d expect the same treatment for Fire Emblem Echoes.
Echoes is actually a remake of the second game in the series, though it has been altered so much that few would truly recognize it outside of the story. It’s also important to note that the game was never even released in the West. The series has had a long history of not launching games in the US and Europe, mostly due to poor reception for the ones that were. That changed with Fire Emblem Awakening though, selling millions of copies and solidifying the series as a top tier release for 3DS.
With so much success the series has expanded into mobile with the release of Fire Emblem Heroes. It will be interesting to see if we get a FE game on Nintendo Switch any time soon.
Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia will arrive exclusively on Nintendo 3DS on May 19th for $59.99.
