GameStop CEO J Paul Raines is excited about the next Xbox. With GameStop’s most recent financials pushing the company’s stock valuation to multi-year highs, there’s obvious optimism about the retail business going forward. However, much of GameStop’s forward looking statements about their potential profits were predicated on the fact that there has only been one console announced thus far, Sony’s PlayStation 4.

In a recent interview with Games Industry, Raines talks a little more about the next Xbox, and he thinks it’s going to be an attention grabber when Microsoft finally reveals the new tech.

“They are doing some really cool stuff, I’m eager to hear them start their announcements.”

“We’ve been spending a lot of time with Microsoft, but we have to let them take the lead on this, but it will be a very hot, compelling device. They are doing some really cool stuff, and I’m eager to hear them start their announcements because I think the world is going to stand up and take notice,” said Raines.

When will these announcements be? Many had pegged April for the month that Microsoft would announce the “Xbox 720”, but we’ve yet to hear anything so early in the month. According to rumors, Microsoft was alleged to be putting together an event similar to Sony’s PlayStation 4 reveal in February, laying the ground work for E3 2013. Though if don’t do that, the last possible stop that Microsoft could reveal the next-generation system with an intended holiday release would likely be E3 2013. Hopefully we’re not waiting that long, because if Raines is right, it sounds like Microsoft has something interesting brewing.
