GTA V will be paced differently than its predecessors. With three characters, Rockstar is looking to get the action going right away. According to an interview with Leslie Benzies, the developers are looking to get players into the intense action-packed gameplay immediately.

This method should give players a sense of immediate and total immersion

Speaking in a recent interview with Jeuxactu, the Rockstar North President explained this new pacing. Benizes explains that the former pacing that was used in previous games like San Andreas and GTA IV worked for those game, but this time around a different approach was needed. “Today, we want to surprise people with very intense missions from the start. The pace of the game is much faster than any of its predecessors…we want to show off the new game mechanics while creating intense, action-packed gameplay, to capture the player’s attention immediately. Remember that the three characters in the game are already living in the city of Los Santos and surrounding areas. They are not newcomers like Niko and Tommy Vercetti, or people returning after a long absence like CJ.”

According to Rockstar the goal is “Immediate and total immersion” in Los Santos.
