Kingdom Hearts 3 has been anticipated by fans of the series ever since they played through all of Kingdom Hearts 2. That game released back in 2006 and we are still not only seeing glimpses of the game, with the latest coming at E3. While most originally thought it was destined to be a PS3 title, it sounds like they weren’t even close to working on it until recent years.
E3 brought us a brand new trailer for Kingdom Hearts 3 finally that revealed the new Tangled based world and some other new attacks. The details we’ve learned after have also been rather informative, including that QTEs would not be returning as we told you yesterday. The latest round of info comes straight from Tetsuya Nomura, who was interviewed by a roundtable of fans from various Kingdom Hearts fansites at E3.
Within this roundtable interview, Nomura was asked if Kingdom Hearts 3 was always planned to be released on the new generations of consoles and his answer may surprise many.
“To be honest, it was not. It just so happened that the timing happened to work out in this situation. When the time came that we were ready and able to begin work on Kingdom Hearts 3, the Playstation 4 and Xbox One had just been introduced, so the best decision for us was to develop KH3 for the new consoles.”
This is interesting to hear that they weren’t even to the point of any point of development of the game until the PS4 and Xbox One were around behind the scenes, but not all too surprising considering the game’s current progress.
It sounds like we will get even more information on Kingdom Hearts 3 at D23 in August, so the wait won’t be anywhere near as long this time between announcements for the game.
