We knew that a shakeup would be coming in the UK video game sales charts this week, with the release of BioWare’s Mass Effect: Andromeda set to be one of the biggest games of the year. It has now been revealed that the game has debuted in the #1 spot in the charts, though it didn’t match the early success that recent games in the series experienced.
Despite the fact that the game debuted at the #1 spot, it has been revealed that it did not meet the sales numbers reached by Mass Effect 2 or 3. We don’t have the specific sales numbers for comparison, but the fact that the game was not as well-received as the previous games were likely made in impact. The game has received mixed reviews since launch, with some noting a poor story and characters along with technical issues being major flaws. It has experienced the third biggest launch of the year so far, only being topped by Ghost Recon: Wildlands and Horizon: Zero Dawn.
As for the rest of the top 10 sales charts in the UK, Ghost Recon: Wildlands has been dethroned as the #1 game after spending a couple of weeks in that position. However, it only dropped to the #2 spot, so sales for the game are certainly staying strong. LEGO Worlds and Horizon: Zero Dawn take the #3 and #4 spots, whereas The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild comes in at #6. The following is the complete list of 10 games in the UK sales charts:
- (1) Mass Effect Andromeda
- (2) Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Wildlands
- (3) LEGO Worlds
- (4) Horizon Zero Dawn
- (5) GTA 5
- (6) The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
- (7) FIFA 17
- (8) Rocket League
- (9) Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare
- (10) Forza Horizon 3
Despite the mixed response that the game has received, we enjoyed our time with Mass Effect: Andromeda when we covered it recently. You can check out our thoughts on the game in our review by clicking right here.
