According to The Hollywood Reporter, 20th Century Fox is in final talks with Paranormal Activity 3 and 4 directors Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman to write and direct the Mega Man film adaptation.
Rumors of a Mega Man movie popped up in 2015 that suggested Fox and Chernin Entertainment were going to be developing the movie. These rumors turned out to be true, and Fox finally acquired the rights to the film earlier this year.
Joost and Schulman made their directorial debut in 2010 with Catfish, a documentary about online dating which then led to an MTV show of the same name. The duo would then go on to direct Paranormal Activity 3 and 4. Their most recent release, Nerve, stars Emma Roberts and Dave Franco who take on increasingly extreme dares for money.
The Mega Man series first launched in 1987 with Capcom’s Mega Man for NES. Since then, the franchise has spawned dozens of games and television shows, becoming one of the most iconic franchises worldwide.
We still don’t know anything about the Mega Man movie such as its plot or what direction it will go in. Video game film adaptations are notoriously bad, with few, if any, receiving decent reviews. Though some do make exceptional returns, like the Resident Evil film franchise, others are complete box office bombs. Let’s hope Mega Man does not meet the same fate.
