Video games and movies are two things that have rarely gone well together, regardless of whether it’s a movie-based game or a game-based movie. While movies that are in the works like Assassin’s Creed and Uncharted seem like natural fits, a movie has now been announced that is quite a shock, Mega Man.

Super Fighting Robot! Mega Man has seen a bit of a resurgence of late, with appearances in the latest Super Smash Bros. and the announcement of a new animated TV series. However, there are announced games in development from Capcom, which makes this announcement all the stranger.

According to Tracking Board, 20th Century Fox and Chernin Entertainment are in the early stages of developing a movie based on the Blue Bomber. This reports says that Peter Chernin himself will produce as well.

This duo have been on fire in recent years with big successes like the two recent Planet of the Apes films, The Heat, and most recently Spy, though Exodus: Gods and Kings was a miss last year.

The big question is just how will they handle Mega Man? Video game movies are tough enough as is, but one like Mega Man seems even harder. Mega Man should be a boy, but will they cast that young for the character or age him up to be a teenager instead? We’ll just have to wait and see, though it’s very possible this project never even gets past these early stages based on past video game movie properties.
