Bethesda has unabashedly pushed their popular RPG series into a number of different genres in recent years.  While fans of Besthesda Game Studios have been patiently waiting on The Elder Scrolls VI or whatever they end up calling their next installment in the series, they’ve gotten an MMO and now a card game.
The Elder Scrolls Legends has arrived on Steam today as a free-to-play strategy card game that is based on the lore and the world of The Elder Scrolls series.
The game features both a single player story mode and online multiplayer. Â While The Elder Scrolls Legends does sound like a riff on Blizzard’s Hearthstone, the meaty lore in the series of RPGs should bring in some fans. Â Cards and leaders are based off of characters and creatures in the Elder Scrolls universe.
Single player offers the ability to earn Legendary cards, new decks, and card packs to use to build custom decks. Â Online players can challenge each other in ranked or unranked modes, build decks and level up cards by playing games. Â The gameplay in The Elder Scrolls Legends does differ somewhat from other card battle game in that it features multiple lanes to manage in the fight as well as a branching progression path for different cards.
The Elder Scrolls Legends is free to download but there is a “Store” menu that has plenty to sell. Â Card packs come in multiple denominations up to 60 packs for $70. Â Bethesda is selling additional story mode content for the game, some of which can be purchased with in-game currency. Â There are also card collections that are available for purchase. Â Registering with Bethesda will net you three free card packs for the game, however.
